Occupational therapy promotes independence in “occupations”, or everyday activities, for individuals across the lifespan. Children’s main occupations are learning, play, & socialization. The goal of occupational therapy is to help children participate and succeed in their occupations in meaningful ways so they can perform and function in all areas of their life independently.

Difficulties with handwriting, grasp, using scissors, using utensils, and completing clothing fasteners
Challenges with attention, focus, and is easily distracted
Seeking or avoiding behaviors (is in constant motion or avoids movement all together)
Is over or under responsive to touch
Has delays in overall motor skills and motor coordination, or appears clumsier than their peers
Difficulties with activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, and hygiene tasks)
Is easily overwhelmed or frustrated, and is difficult to calm if upset

Fine Motor Skills: Grasp, clothing fasteners, hand strength, dexterity, bilateral skills (ability to use both hands at the same time), and scissor use.
Gross Motor Skills & Development: Motor planning and praxis, bilateral coordination, right / left discrimination, ball skills and hand-eye coordination, and strength and endurance.
Visual Motor/ Visual Perceptual Skills: The ability to coordinate what you see to what your hands do.
Sensory Processing Skills: Body awareness, emotional regulation, motor planning and coordination, tactile defensiveness (i.e. ability to tolerate certain clothing or textures), seeking / avoiding behaviors, body awareness, and attention and organizational skills.
Executive Functioning Skills: Organization, planning, and sequencing, impulsivity, multi-step direction following, flexible thinking and transitions, time management, working memory, and problem solving.
Daily Living/ Self-help Skills: Dressing, grooming, and hygiene tasks, shoe tying, cooking, and potty training.

These include articulation therapy, expressive and receptive language intervention activities, and other interventions depending on the type of speech or language disorder.

Therapeutic motor activities are used to help children access all environments efficiently and safely, and help children maximize their physical abilities and minimize the physical limitations that accompany developmental issues. The team uses experience and extensive training in pediatric health, including anatomy, physiology, psychology and child development to assist children in reaching their highest level of potential. With physical therapy, kids build strength and improve motor function, balance and coordination in fun, creative ways.

Using HIPPA compliant software, our staff is able to provide effective interventions through any of your devices. Teletherapy is a valuable platform for families who live outside our area that are looking for skilled therapists, busy families who are unable to attend in-person sessions, and is also a wonderful support for in-person sessions as we can gain a better understanding of your home life and environment to guide your child’s therapies. We provide occupational, physical, and speech therapies via Teletherapy, as well as 1:1 socialization training.
